Jane Weibel is a senior in the undergraduate program. She is attending Long Beach State University and will graduate next spring semester. She will continue to go to school after graduating and is in the ceramics program. She did not start at Long Beach, she transferred from San Diego Mesa College. She is in the BFA program which require her to perform at least one show but this show she is on her third.
In her gallery she has many pieces of art work many showing signs of trapped, having no freedom. There is a cage that she calls “The Cage”. She said it has no actual name but the meaning of it is, restriction, stereo type, visual language, and no freedom. An influence on making this cage was the fact that she goes to escape rooms, were she has to solve puzzles and try to get out of the room in a two hour limit.
Jane’s art was amazing, my favorite was the cage. In the cage she is expressing a lot of emotion, how women are sometimes treated less than men. How many people stereo type on women not being able to do everything a man can. Although the cage is colorful it shows all her meanings of “The Cage.”
